Keeping a drop down ...

I’ve been working on creating some CSS/HTML based drop-down menus recently. I’ve typically used Javascript for similar elements but because of some platform restrictions, JS isn’t a good option. I came across a quirk with my code that had a pretty simple solution. Everything...

Career Advice Nov03

Career Advice

I was recently invited to speak at the 2014 Ball State University Fall News Round-up. I was on a panel where I gave advice to college students on how to start their career. My advice applies to more than just the TV/digital world, so I thought I would share my thoughts here. Networking happens constantly, even when you don’t want it. It’s a small world and you never know who will be in a position to help or hurt your prospects. Your lab partner in college might end up working for the company you are applying to. They might be able to open a door for you with a job recommendation if you were a good lab partner. If you didn’t pull your...

Best Pics of 2014

Here are a few of my favorite pictures from the last few months. I created a number of photo galleries for WISHTV.com on the Indiana State Fair, AC’s Charity Golf Outing, and the Indianapolis 500. It’s nice to get back in the field and do a little photography every once in a...

Arrested Development...

As I discussed in a previous post, on Memorial Day we hosted an Arrested Development party to watch the entire new season of the show. I started watching Arrested Development during their third season and later dived into the DVD’s and fell in love with the show. Known for it’s...

Busy Holiday Weekend Jun02

Busy Holiday Weekend

I had a very busy Memorial Day weekend. I worked that Sunday for the little race we have here in Indianapolis. I started the day off at the station and then went to IMS to finish off our Indy 500 coverage. It was very cool being in the pits for the race. I ran into this guy… And got a great shot of winner Tony Kanaan being greeted by his team owner after the race. I put together a slideshow of some of fans and the race at WISHTV.com Monday, John, neighbor Erin, and I hosted an Arrested Development party for the newly released season. We all watched the show when it was on the air years ago and became super fans of the show. Erin came...

For the Kids May02

For the Kids

I was invited to an event through work. My boss is on the board for the Boys and Girls Club of Indianapolis and they had a charity event the department heads were all invited to. I agreed without knowing much about it. Then I got an email earlier this week with the details. It was at the...

Internet Yoda Apr25

Internet Yoda

I receive a message from former ABC 4 colleague Chris Vanocur recently. Chris is an incredibly talented political reporter who recently started his own website, appropriately titled ChrisVanocur.com. Chris and I coordinated a lot of web coverage on big stories he broke when I was running the...

Track tour Apr22

Track tour

Monday afternoon the station had a brief tour at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The tour was for people who have never been to the media center or the station room at the track so everyone could get the layout. I’ve been to the track a few times but I’ve strangely never covered it. I’m really looking forward to race day. I’ll be at the track in the media center working on the website throughout race day and will also be walking around taking pictures. More to come on my first 500 weekend in...

Tough assignment Apr21

Tough assignment

I had a tough assignment earlier this week to cover the Colts Cheerleader auditions. I put together a pretty nice size photo gallery on WISHTV.com for our viewers. If cheerleaders can’t get page views, I don’t know what can. It was a nice little project for me and gave me another...

Up Close with an Osc...

For the first time ever, the Oscar is hitting the road. Well, an Oscar is hitting the road. The Academy is letting a real Oscar statue travel the country to drum up publicity for the award show that will air later this month. I asked the security guy who travels with the award if it is a...

Back in Basketball Land Feb12

Back in Basketball Land

Since my return to Indiana, basketball has once again become a big part of my life. ESPN College Gameday came to Butler’s historic Hinkle Fieldhouse in January.  I grabbed my new toy, a Canon 60D, and made the trip down Meridan to shoot some stills for WISHTV.com. The crowd was pretty fired up and it was fun to be around that type of hoops energy. Outside of getting screamed at by a Butler Police Department officer for no real reason, it was a great trip back behind the lens. You can check out the slideshow I put together on ESPN College Gameday’s visit to Butler here. I also had a chance to catch a Pacers game with John Duong...

I was checking out the competition websites when I stumbled upon the headline ” Man allegedly behind Manti Te’o hoax tells talk show host he was in love with quarterback” on Fox59.com. Quarterback? So now it’s Everett Golson’s fault? Although Fox59 isn’t being...
